Satsuma Kiriko Glass
Satsuma Kiriko glass originates from the Edo period when it was manufactured by the Satsuma clan. At the time this glass art marked a period of rapid development of glass artisanship, with the “crimson glass of Satsuma” becoming world famous. Later on, the war had devastated all the factories and it was not until 1985 that this art form was brought back to life. Satsuma Kiriko is characterized by its deep distinct cuts into the glass and layering of colors, creating a mesmerizing gradation of the glass and its colors.
