Riso Porcelain

Riso Porcelain’s foundation is Arita ware, in Arita, Kyushu, where the finest Japanese porcelain is to be found. Led by fourth generation head of the family kiln, Shinji Terauchi is charismatic as much as he is creative and innovative. He was initially interested Imari ware, which shows in many of the Riso works, before he started to study Arita ware, and Sometsuke style which is his family’s traditional technique. Meanwhile he improved on wheel throwing and glazing techniques, resulting in developing his own unique style and technique. Through periods of mass-production, mass-consumption, Terauchi continues his pursuit to create beautiful forms independent of trends with the belief that “beauty is forever”, designing and making the products himself.

A collection of Riso Porcelain are available made to order. We also work with chefs, hoteliers, etc. on hospitality projects and special events. The artisan’s teawares have been commissioned by various hotels in Japan for use in room. Contact us for details.
